Last-Minute New Year’s Eve Outfit

Do you like to get gussied up and go out New Year’s Eve?  Do you throw a party?  Or do you like to hang back and keep it low key, grab some munchies, play some games, or just binge watch something on TV?

I wanted to keep it low key and low stress this year but still dress up just a little for a casual get together with some friends.  If this sounds like your New Year’s Eve (or another fun evening in the coming year) I’ve put together a great look for you!

I’m someone who loves make-up and loves to get dressed up.  But as I juggle work, blog and my family, by the time I get to thinking about me I’m totally pooped!  Of course in my head I’d love to throw a New Year’s Eve party, design and mail out fun invitations, plan a gorgeous eye-candy menu, buy an awesome dress, make my main squeeze dress up and snap photographs of the place all decked out…  Seriously I would love to, but I’m working like crazy and I don’t want to drop the cash on that right now.  So, Nate and I decided to keep it simple this year, getting together with friends and wearing what we already have in the closet.

If you’re going out and don’t know what to wear, here are some simple suggestions you can rock that aren’t too fancy and won’t break the bank!  Who know’s you might already have these items in your closet.

I don’t like having a lot of clothing.  I go out of my way to only purchase timeless items I know I will wear for a long time!  I mean it!  I’m still wearing clothing that I wore back in 1999!!  Can you believe it?!?

Black pants or black skirt!  If you don’t own any, get some!  They are a perfect staple item that you can use to dress up or dress down.  They go with almost everything!  Not to mention a very slimming look!!  I own 2 styles, a slim fit style like the ones below and a loose wider trouser, like the second image below.

Ok next… a simple top.  I LOVE all black outfits, it’s hot!  But this New Year’s Eve I’ll be wearing an old off white blouse I’ve had for about 8 years!  That’s right ladies 8 years! Below are some fun top ideas.

POLYVORE

Of course I’ll be wearing my leopard heels Nate bought me for Christmas 3 years ago.

As for jewelry, I’ll be wearing my $6.00 black rose earnings from Claires and a pearl necklace I made years ago from my grandmothers beaded and pearl necklaces she gave to me before she passed away.

With a simple outfit like this there’s no reason you shouldn’t go crazy with the jewelry!  FYI- Chokers are HOT HOT HOT!

H&M

If your looking for something more sparkly but still on a tight budget check out H&M’s party wear.

If you really want a killer dress that will have folks drooling check out these stunners!!  They are not cheap.  😉

I’m not a fan of purses or clutches, I usually keep my little items close to my heart… and tucked in my bra.  😉

Here are four cute bags you can’t go wrong with for New Year’s Eve.

Last but most certainly not least: hair and make-up!

Make-up.  Below are super fun tutorials on making your face pop for the New Year’s!  Please note!  She is applying a LOT of make-up on her face.  I don’t usually cake it on quite so thick.  So please don’t feel like you have to have so many layers.  You can find all the same colors and brushes at Target.  The key is having brushes for smooth even blends.

Hair.  I have some elegant detailed pleating on the high collar of my blouse that I’ll want to show, plus my necklace.  So I’ll be pulling my hair back in a high bun. Below is a quick tutorial.

Here is a quick little snap shot of my look for this New Year’s Eve that I pulled from my closet.  It’s simple, and not too dressed up.

So, what do you think?  Does this make you want to go through your closet and get ready?  Are there some items you might want to pick up?  I want to know!  What are you doing for New Year’s Eve?!?

XOXO

Love it! I have been rediscovering my closet now that I can fit into my clothes. 😉 It is fun to wear the timeless pieces. I have worn several outfits that are 10 years old at least and my students love them. I love to tell them how old they are. Thanks for motivating me to dig into my closet. I got a choker for Christmas. I am excited to wear it!
