2017 Fall/Winter Decor Trends Part 1

Through my extensive trend research as a professional designer, traveling to showrooms, sitting in on design lectures in Chicago and seeing future decor products that haven’t hit the market yet, here are the fall decor design trends for 2017.

Part 1

Here is what will be strong this season:

Deep GREEN. One of my personal faves! This color is coming in strong and is everywhere, especially in the kitchen! Pair this color with natural wood tones, black, brass (and other mixed metals), whites and off whites. Isn’t it just beautiful!?

FYI- There are many green tones in trend right now, so if deep green isn’t your thing, you can lighten it up.

Yup! I totally love that look!

So, you know what that means? Interior designers are moving away from the all white and light grey kitchen look to add warmer, richer colors in the kitchen.

Tech-free rooms are next on the list. Personally, I’m totally board with this concept! We need spaces in our homes to unplug and be more present with one another. The most obvious place to unplug is the bedroom! Make it a retreat and a place to truly relax.

Switch up the bed. Say goodbye to boring bedding. Make your bed more interesting with color and texture. Don’t be so matchy, matchy.

Oh! Did I mention that quilts are making a comeback in a big way!? They are!

Check out these stunning modern quilts from Alexis Deise.

You also have to check out these quilts from Louise Gray. Love, love, love!

Velvet. It’s in and it’s all over the place.

Here’s my thought on this material. I love it and I love how luxurious it looks. It looks amazing in an eclectic environment mixed with woods and woven baskets. However, overtime the material doesn’t age well. So if you want to invest in this look, go for a synthetic/faux version. Especially if you are doing bigger items like furniture (a must if you have kids, easier to clean). If it’s pillows and clothing, then you’re fine. Just keep in mind that this material is more high maintenance. I like to use it for pillows.

Baskets and woven texture. Oh how I love this too! Baskets can bring a tremendous amount of depth on your wall. It’s woven texture and thick patterns can bring the perfect accents in practically any space. I don’t think this look will ever get old. It’s timeless.

Use baskets to hold your plants too.

Things that are going out of trend:

Rose gold and copper seem to have run their course, brass is the new replacement.  But don’t misunderstand, mixing different metals is good and timeless.

Marble everywhere is out, but one or two pieces of marble are still timeless and beautiful.

Generic furniture is way out! Walk away from everything being matchy, matchy. Be more creative and mix it up.

I can’t decide. I love the navy kitchen cabinets and the dark green. Is the navy going to be in for a while?

Go with what you love more. I don’t switch up my home every season because the trends change. I might pull in one or two new trend elements if I’m really drawn to them. It’s your home and you have to live in it. So, if you love navy more over green who cares if next years cabinets are a different color. Great question!

I am so in love with those green cabinets. That British green with gold or brass is just so lovely.

Sounds like a common response…. but I’m especially digging the deep green cabinets and the modern quilts. Love it!
