Rethink How We Drink Water

Okay ladies I’m going to do a little switch-a-roo today. I’m posting another Beautiful on the Inside post today, because we need to talk more about how to feel good in our bodies. The biggest secret ingredient… water!

We all know how important water is right? But are we drinking it the right way?

It’s a fact that your skin is an organ, and just like any other part of the body, your skin is made up of cells. And skin cells, like any other cell in the body, are made up of water. Without enough water, our organs don’t function at their best.  If your skin doesn’t receive a sufficient amount of water, the lack of hydration will present itself by turning your skin dry, tight and flaky. Dry skin has less resilience and is more prone to wrinkling. Yuck!  This is so true for my body and skin.

Not too long ago I learned that Alicia Keys hardly ever wears make-up. Evidently she doesn’t have to. First when I heard that, I thought, well, when you make millions, anyone can look amazing when you have a teams of stylists to help you look good all the time. But when I did more digging, I learned that her celebrity makeup artist Dotti introduced her to an old Eastern European water technique that helps her have more glowing beautiful skin.  So here’s one of the things she does.

When you get up in the morning, until 2:00 p.m., drink two liters of water. From 2:00-5:00 p.m., drink one liter of water, and after 5:00, just sip water.

Here’s what will start to happen if you want to try this for yourself. I mean honestly what do you have to lose, right?

1. The water flushes your kidneys and liver.

2. When this becomes a habit you’ll be full and efficiently hydrated, which means you’ll need less balms and lotions, and your skin will look better.

3. When you chug more during the day your body will be in a routine to go to the bathroom during the day. As you sip the water at night, you won’t wake up having to use the bathroom in the middle of the night so you wont get the broken sleep, which means your body will have more REM sleep. Oh FYI- when you get REM sleep your body burns more calories. Yes, please!

So, here it is again broken down:

Morning-2:00 p.m.: 
Drink two liters.

2:00-5:00 p.m.: 
Drink another liter.

5:00 p.m.-bedtime: 
Just take sips of water for the rest of the evening, as needed. (Not huge amounts, but a few glasses, taken in sips, are a-okay.)

So seriously, the only thing I drink is water. I’ve been doing this for 7 years, and my body loves me so much more. Yes, I’ll drink herbal teas, but other than that, it’s all water.

Everyone will not agree that water consumption will improve skin… but seriously, I promise it certainly can’t hurt. Many people often report that by increasing their water intake, their skin has a more radiant glow. Nothing will happen overnight, but even a good couple of weeks of increasing water intake should be enough for you to see how hydration affects your own skin.
