Last-Minute New Year’s Eve Outfit

Do you like to get gussied up and go out New Year’s Eve?  Do you throw a party?  Or do you like to hang back and keep it low key, grab some munchies, play some games, or just binge watch something on TV?

I wanted to keep it low key and low stress this year but still dress up just a little for a casual get together with some friends.  If this sounds like your New Year’s Eve (or another fun evening in the coming year) I’ve put together a great look for you!

Unwanted Facial Hair

We thought it would be fun to celebrate Movember in a feminine way.

Every woman deals with unwanted hair on their face, especially the hair above the upper lip, neck, cheeks, and chin. Most women who encounter this immediately reach for wax, strips, facial Nair, a razor or an electric mini razor for a form of hair removal. Some who can afford it get laser treatments.  However, there are natural and possibly permanent solutions to this problem. Read More »

Tween Girls’ Style

Hope you had a fun Halloween!  As we muddle through today with too little sleep and too much candy, we wanted to share our thoughts on tween styles.  It seems like in recent years, girls are dressing more like mini versions of their moms than anything else.  And that’s fine.  But we really love seeing girls who play up the fun, sweet innocence of those pre-teen years.  Laura’s girls, Haley and Jessica, were happy to oblige when we asked if they’d model for this photo shoot! By Melessa

Have you ever heard of United Nude?  I hadn’t until I went to Europe and saw their delicious shoes in Vienna (also found in NYC).  Not to mention the Austrian woman working in the store was STUNNING! She had to be in her mid-50s. Her perfectly straight white hair was just below the shoulder, with straight bangs across the top of her brow.  Beautiful cheek bones, dressed in black with outstanding shoes and earrings.  She was so HOT!  I wanted her entire look.  I totally wanted to take a picture of her, but I figured she’d probably think I was some weird, crazy American.  I didn’t want to leave a bad impression.

Making Sense of Scents

This post contains affiliate links.

When my husband was taking a biology class in college, he learned that the sense of smell is closely related to memory.  That explains why when I smell hot cocoa, I think of my mom, who always had a warm mug of cocoa ready for me when I came in from sledding on a cold winter day.  Or if I smell fresh-mown grass, I immediately connect it with rolling down my favorite hill as a kid.

Scent doesn’t just evoke memories, though.  It makes us feel.  The memories tied to scent often have an almost visceral reaction.  They bring back the emotions, good or bad, of specific moments of time.

Melessa and I were talking about our favorite perfumes the other day, and both of them have special stories behind them.  We laughed at how fancy they made us sound, as we each discovered our perfumes in Europe, even though we’ve both only been there once. Read More »

It’s Makeover Time…and our first GIVEAWAY!

Working with Melessa is like being at a slumber party–we don’t get much sleep, but we have SO MUCH FUN.  We wanted to do a post on how great style can be affordable, so I generously offered to buy some new clothes for myself.  The sacrifices I make for you!

Everything is from H&M, so it’s trendy and relatively inexpensive (except the orange trench).  We’re not affiliated with them at all–we just like their stuff.  I started buying my girls’ clothes there this year, and I am kicking myself for not shopping there years ago.  I know some people have been put off by some of the less-than-modest clothing options sold there, but like any store, you just have to focus on the items that match your style, and ignore what doesn’t.
