I love wispy, loose-looking wreaths! The layers and thin, delicate branches always lure me in. This year, I decided to switch things up and do a yellow accent for my fall-themed front porch.
We all have a ton of things going on right now, so I wanted to create a simple yet strong, eye-catching wreath against my pale blue door. The best part about this design is that I can have it out now through November. I’ll add a few little elements here and there when Halloween gets closer, and maybe something for Thanksgiving, but if you like to keep things simple, this wreath design looks beautiful just as it is.
Here is what you need:
- 1 wispy grape vine wreath (you can buy this at an craft store)
- Additional long dried flowers (I picked these up at Michaels)
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Yellow spray paint
- Old sheet or piece of plastic (to catch paint spray)
I wanted more layers and length for my wreath so I decided to thicken it up just a bit with the dried flowers. The dried flowers have long stems so I recommend cutting them at different lengths.
After you cut the stem, simply add glue to the bottom of the stem and glue to the wreath. You can glue the stem in the center of the wreath, but you don’t have to because it will all be painted the same color and no one will be able to tell. Up to you.
For this design, I glued in the same direction as the branches on the grape vine wreath.
If you’re having trouble getting the flower stems to go in the direction you want, you can bend the stem and glue to the branches if needed.
Don’t be afraid of asymmetrical! It can add a lot of drama and personality, especially on wreaths.
This was short and sweet. It only took me about 20 minutes to cut flower stems and glue them to the grape vine wreath.
Next spray paint (both sides), let it dry and you’re done!
When you’re spraying little branches make sure you’re moving the spray can all around the branches, really giving them a thick coat of yellow paint.
I can’t wait to hang it up and show you the rest of my porch! Stay tuned for more fall-themed DIYs and my porch reveal….
P.S. Do you want a little sneak peak?
As you may know from following the blog, I really love black and white. Did you know I also love plaid? Who am I kidding, I love a lot of things! But the theme I’m going for on my fall-themed front porch this year is black and white plaid. Check out what Pottery Barn has in store for fall. Super cute black and white plaid items too!
Don’t you just love it?!
