I did it! I was able to squeeze in a Thanksgiving tablescape this weekend.
When I was thinking about what I was going to do, I didn’t set my heart on a specific color theme until the very end. Why you may ask…? Because, in real life, I’m not the kind of gal that’s going to special order specific floral colors, order special plates or order special napkins. I’m the kinda gal that goes with what’s available.
I knew I was going to use my existing pumpkins and paint them, but because I can paint them literally any color, I thought I would see what flower colors were available at Trader Joes, first. I know that I’ve said this before, but I love Trader Joe’s flowers! They’re cheap and they have beautiful varieties to choose from. I highly recommend that you check them out if you haven’t. They had some lovely lavender shades and raspberry tones, so I thought, “Let’s go with a little purply spin on Thanksgiving. Why not?” When have I ever gone totally traditional, right?
In a perfect world, I wish that I had more options with flowers that were different sizes. For example, the white roses in my arrangement would have looked way, way better if they were smaller. But, because I didn’t want to go to the trouble of driving out of my way or ordering specific flowers to make the “perfect” arrangement, I just picked up flowers at Trader Joes, spent $22 bucks, and called it a day. Simple!
For my centerpiece, I cut open a fake pumpkin, made sure it wasn’t cracked and lined it with a plastic bag.

Make sure you also check that the plastic bag has no holes. Hot glue your bag to the bottom of the pumpkin.

Then I added floral foam. This stuff is fabulous for arranging flowers. I highly recommend it. Make sure you hot glue the foam to the bottom of the bag. If you don’t and when it’s time to fill your arrangement with water, the foam will float and mess up your arrangement.

When making an arrangement, try playing with different heights. First, I used eucalyptus leaves for my greenery. Then I used white roses on the opposite side, kind of cascading around the outer edge. I wanted to create a mini ombre effect with the florals. I couldn’t find all the colors I wanted, but I like the transition from raspberry to lavender tones that I was able to create.

Once my colors were set in my floral arrangement, I was ready to paint my pumpkins. I continued the same ombre effect with my mini pumpkins.
It got just a tad messy. 🙂

I couldn’t help myself, so I designed some fun paper cutouts as decor pieces for the table. I mean, why not, right?
