The PerfectSlice + A Healthier Berry Crumble

This past March, I had the pleasure of meeting Becky Parr at the IHA show in Chicago. She is the inventor of the PerfectSlice

As an inventor myself, this is one of those fabulous ideas I wish I thought of. This product is so simple to use. If you haven’t heard about it, it’s time you did!  It’s been featured on The Doctors, in Real Simple magazine, Paula Deen magazine and in the O magazine. Yep, Oprah love’s this product, too! All week I’ve been using this product for baking, serving perfect portion slices and as storage for baked goods. So, I’m thrilled to share the PerfectSlice with you.

Here’s what makes this product a must-have: There are actually two inventions with the PerfectSlice. 1) The baking sheet has built-in inch marks that act as a guide to help you cut a straight grid and divide your baked items evenly. 2) A straight edge cutter that fits the pan, cut’s straight when you line up your marks and doesn’t damage the non-stick pan. You can cut a perfect straight line and create any amount of serving sizes you need. It can be a square, rectangle or triangle shape. You can go from large generous portion sizes to small sample sizes. Not to mention your presentation looks nice and professional. It also comes with a lid that locks securely to the pan and has a handle for easy transport.

Serving sizes are very important! After traveling to Europe and seeing first hand what correct portion sizes look like, I know I can cut back on how much I serve myself. Europeans look good because they understand portion control. This product is perfect for cutting the correct portion size. It’s also ideal for dieters and diabetics.

I can still enjoy my guilty pleasure foods by serving myself an appropriate portion size.

This product come’s in multiple shapes and sizes. You can cook anything you can think of; sweet or savory. Then slice it to it’s correct portion size and not feel guilty about it.

Seriously, I’m loving this product so much I asked Becky if she would be willing to pass on an additional one as a giveaway. She was more than happy to, so now you have a chance to win one just in time for Mother’s Day!

If you’re still trying to figure out what to get mom this is totally the perfect gift for Mother’s Day, birthdays or holidays. I want the get the entire PerfectSlice set now!

Click on the PerfectSlice link to order from Amazon.

So, speaking of eating better and paying attention to portion size, I also want to share with you my own healthier meals and desserts that will help you not only feel better, but also get you back to eating real food that’s not overly sweetened and doesn’t have refined sugar or corn syrup. The majority of my desserts are sweetened with fruit, honey or 100% maple syrup.

As the  temperatures start rising, here’s one of my family’s favorite summertime treats. It can be enjoyed as a quick breakfast in the morning or a yummy dessert in the evening. It’s super simple and it’s juicy burst paired with the slightly crisp flakes are the perfect texture combination for your taste buds. This healthy treat doesn’t last very long in my household.

Since the crumble contains no refined flour or sugar… I don’t mind if my boys indulge. I can enjoy a serving and not feel guilty about it at all!

Might I also add that fresh whipping cream served over a warm slice is divine!

A Healthier Berry Crumble

This is a natural light tasting treat that’s full of good fiber.

  • 2 ½ cups old-fashioned oats
  • 1/4  cup almond flour (separte into half for topping and half for fruit)
  • 1/3 cup milled flax seeds (separte into half for topping and half for filling)
  • ½ tsp allspice
  • 1 ½ tsp ground cinnomom
  • 1/4 tsp of salt
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup room temperature
  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 6 cups  blueberries
  • 1 tbsp vanilla
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. If you’re not using a non-stick pan (PerfectSlice Covered 9″ x 13″ Cake Pan) you’ll want to use a cooking spray to prep your pan.
  3. To prepare the topping, whisk together the oats, almond flour, milled flax seeds, allspice and cinnamon in a small bowl. Make a well in the center. Pour in the maple syrup, vanilla and melted butter. Stir until fully incorporated.
  4. To prepare the filling, toss the blueberries with the other half of the almond flour, milled flax seeds in a large bowl until completely coated. NOTE: If you want to make your berries a little sweeter, you can add an additional tbsp of honey or maple syrup to the filling and mix well.
  5. Transfer the filling to the prepared pan or PerfectSlice pan, and sprinkle evenly with the topping. (The topping tends to clump, so try to break it up into fairly small pieces.) Bake at 350°F for 45-55 minutes or until the juice is bubbling at the sides of the pan. My oven get’s hot so 45 mins was perfect for me. Cool completely to room temperature; then refrigerate for at least 3 hours before serving to allow the juices to fully thicken. Or let it cool for 15 min and serve warm with fresh cream. YUM!

Honey or agave may be substituted for the pure maple syrup if you prefer.
