This summer has really flown by! I finally had a little time to myself and could focus on a fun DIY project. Even though we are now in mid summer, I really wanted to finish my porch. Oh well, better late than never, right?!
So listen, I love outdoor pillows, but my favorite styles are crazy expensive. Plus, I like to change up my porch every year. So, I started sifting through the fabrics I had laying around and said, “Nah, I want brighter tones.” Then, I went through my kitchen tea towels and found a pattern that could work perfectly. Even better, I got three pillows out of one dish towel!
I had some bright dish towels from Anthropologie that had the look I was going for and could get the job done.
If you’re looking for super cute dish towel designs check out Anthropologie’s selection. I LOVE them! They have so much character and beautiful color combos, making them the perfect decor accent in the kitchen or as a pillow. FYI – I pretty much love all the items at Anthropologie.
Here are some of my favorites.

I wanted 3 bright lumbar pillows to pop off my black and white striped pillows. The Anthropologie dish towel I had was a good size so I divided it into 3 equal parts and began cutting it into rectangles. After that, I unstitched the hem around the towel so I had a little more to work with.

For the back of the pillows I used my leftover black and white gingham fabric from Halloween.

I stitched down the sides and left a 3″ opening to turn the fabric around and stuff it.

For the filler, I took apart an old bed pillow and transferred the stuffing into my new porch pillows. Once it was filled, I felt extra lazy and just hot glued the opening together.

If you don’t know how to make a pillow, here’s a link for directions.
I think this project took 30 minutes or less. I love the way my porch turned out and I always love snacking, eating dinner, or just relaxing out here in the shade. The collection of patterns, colors, foliage and layers makes it cozy and a little eclectic. Adding color in textiles, layering them up, and covering the porch with flowers and plants were the three biggest ways to customize the space and add bold color. See?!? You can do this too! Hint… I Miracle-Gro the crap out of my plants so they get big and overgrown. It was pretty fast and I think it turned out cute.
Here’s the finished look!
