This past weekend I cut 300 pieces of really old, weathered barn wood (and removed a ton of bent, rusty nails) in preparation for my next DIY project in my basement. Check out what I got myself into! Yowzah!

Several years ago, my dad was kind enough to bring me a huge load of barn wood all the way from Idaho. When I called him this weekend to tell him that I was finally going to use the barn wood that he brought out he was excited to hear that his effort and miles driven were not in vain. The wood came from a vintage corn cart that had been on my grandma’s farm for years. My dad isn’t quite sure how old the cart was, but he said that it has been sitting out there a LONG time. It’s really fun to think that I’ll have a little piece of grandma’s farm in my basement.

You know that I’m all about a creative adventure and lots of texture. I have the perfect wall in my basement that is just screaming for a funky project. So, I set up a little work area in garage and used my son’s skateboard to extend my cutting area to keep things level. That’s how you get things done! Maybe the skateboard wasn’t the best idea, but that’s what I was able to pull together. Gotta love those problem solving skills!

I got through 300 measured cuts. Now I have to sand and annihilate anything that might be living in the wood. The last thing we want in our newly refinished basement is a colony of creepy crawlers making themselves at home.

Here is a sneak peak at the pattern. My next project is painting and prepping my vanity for the basement bathroom. Stay tuned for more basements updates. We’re making great progress!
