Happy Friday!! I’m back from Idaho! It was a super busy trip that flew by. I went out to help get my mom and sister set up and organized around their house. We were busy the entire time. I also had a fun opportunity to update and decorate my niece Nina’s bedroom. Scroll down to see what I did.
My niece was ready for a more mature look. Before I drove out there, I wanted to know what her favorite colors and style were. She didn’t really know what to expect so when I arrived with a bunch of DIY materials and fun surprises for her room she was pretty excited. She decided on a clean, feminine look. My dad recently painted her walls pink at her request, so all I had to do was show up with decor items and crafts.
She’s a straight-A student so she takes her grades very seriously. She has been asking for a desk for a long time, and it just so happened, that I had an old desk in need of a new home. So I brought it out for a refresh and a new coat of paint. In addition to a desk, I brought out curtain rods, curtains, ribbons, tons of papers, sewing machine, new bedding, lights, frames, a side table; the works… it was so much fun! Everyone was SO surprised by how much I was able to cram into my Nissan Cube on the drive out. My car is like Mary Poppin’s handbag! 😉

We sanded the desk and sprayed it with a dark teal hue. The hardware was sprayed gold.
The curtain rods I used to have in my music room were repurposed and spayed gold.

I brought out every frame I had laying around and every cute piece of paper I owned. I didn’t have time to paint a bunch of original art, but I could squeeze in some simple paper art designs. All I used was tape, hot glue, or push pins to hold everything together.
And of course, no room is complete without a Sweet Reminder!! 😉 She picked the Flowers in a Jar design.

I wanted to give her some pretty trim on each side of her white satin curtains, so she liked the hanging ribbon idea. I cut the ribbon to the length of the curtains and then tacked them on the top edge of the curtains with hot glue. No sewing involved. And yes, I have random large spools of ribbon in my office; either they were given to me or I’ve had them from other projects. I have SO MUCH RIBBON! So I’m putting it to good use!
I brought out a blank smaller canvas to paint. As I was making the paper art with Nina I thought of doing something simple and abstract with a white background. It needed to be cute, quick, and graphic to complete the gallery wall. Because there are little punches of hot pink in the room I decided to go with a punch to hold up against the value of the darker teals in the room.
She loves her sweet pink walls but was ready to say goodbye to turquoise. She has been dreaming of having a new white bed with more blue, green, and gold accents.

With a full day to dedicate to her space and a bunch of DIY’s here’s what I was able to pull together. Long story short: she loves it!
FYI- please excuse the photos from my phone. I didn’t have room for my camera stuff so the photos aren’t the best quality.
After

I kept it clean, feminine, sweet, and simple, just the way she wanted it. Lucky me, I got to sleep in there while I was visiting.
It was such a busy day! Did anyone notice I placed the pineapple bedding upsidedown? Ha, ha, ha, ha!
I love how it turned out and I’m grateful for the time Nina and I spent together working on it. Love you, my dear!
