Beautiful on the Outside,Design & Decor

My Favorite Lighting

I love looking up, both literally and metaphorically. One of the features that makes our earth so beautiful is the sky above us and the stunning transformation it makes from day to night. In my opinion, some of the most beautiful decor elements are those that float above our heads. These are the statements that set the tone of a room and can be as subtle or as loud as the personalities of the owners that dwell in that space. So, let’s chat about lighting and help me pick through some fun options for my dinning space.

First off, lighting is everything! It defines the mood of a painting. It flatters and highlights our face in a photograph or film and can make us feel different emotions. Lighting is powerful! That being said, it works the same way in our own personal space. Pay attention to what’s above you and think about the lighting in your home.  Look at how your friends do it, or how nice hotels have mastered it. Think about how you want your room to shine.

When choosing the right lighting you need to think about a few things first. What is your style??? I know this can be a hard thing to define for some.

Fun fact: If you say you’re more Modern, make sure you know what modern really means before you say it to a designer. When a designer hears “modern” they will assume you like styles that range from the 1920′ – 1950’s. Modern and Contemporary in interior design are NOT the same. Most people think they mean the same, but it’s not true. Modern design refers to a period of time. It is a defined style created in the 1920′s – 1950′s that will not change. Contemporary design on the other hand will continue to evolve and change, so it always stays current and new. Contemporary design has clean, sleek lines and is marked by solid colors, muted neutrals or bold punches of color in furniture and accessories. Furniture is sleek, lower to the ground and often has metal frames or straight legs with an emphasis on simple shapes and forms.

Let me help you. Here are a few of the main styles broken down as simple as possible.

Also, consider what colors and/or metal finishes you like.

Oh, and be aware of the size of the lighting element that you choose! It may be too big above your table, or too small for the size of your room.

And don’t forget about bulbs. Bulbs are just as important in those fixtures and determine how well they illuminate your space.

My house exterior is traditional with a mix of eclectic decor on my porch. On the inside I’m 100% eclectic. I’ve got a little bit of everything in my place.

Tip: Pay attention to the style in your home. If you live in a traditional home, but you like contemporary design, make sure you add purposeful structure and decor elements throughout your home and on its exterior to really make it work and flow.

I have an open floor plan, so all my lights need to work well together. They don’t need to be matchy-matchy but they do need to compliment each other. Right now, the only lighting that will permanently remain where it is, is the luscious chandelier in my front music room. I love it! Nate and I just installed it a year ago and let me tell you that was one heavy mamba-jamba to hang! But worth it.

Teardrops Capiz Chandelier

It’s easy to find a beautiful chandelier, but it’s challenging when you’re on a budget, and not interested in blowing thousands of dollars. So, here are some beauties, that won’t break the bank.

Again, because my home is eclectic, I have a lot of options to choose from (which actually can be more challenging).

Below are some options I’m considering to coordinate with the chandelier above. I’d love to hear your perspective on which one you think would look best.

Isn’t it amazing how simple a chandelier can change the style of a space?

So, which chandelier looks best above my kitchen table?

BTW If you’re in need of a new lighting element, I can help! Just shoot me an email at mydailyshe@gmail.com and schedule an appointment. I can give you options, just like I did above to help you visualize the look that best represents you.

XOXO

Good to know. I think I like the flower light best. I’d be afraid to poke myself on the other ones.?

I’d go for E. All of them are cool in their own way.

I’m a little surprised but I like the flower pendant the best actually, and this is why: the decor in the rest of your dining room is really linear, with lots of straight horizontal lines and corners. To me the flower softens the lines a little and even though it’s a statement piece it doesn’t draw so much attention from the artwork on the walls. Just some thoughts..

I like option F the best but I also like option A. Your touch makes everything look perfect!
