Happy Friday! Here’s the latest with the progress in my music room. I love everything that has come in except the area rug. The colors are not like the image on the website and it needs to be returned. Even after planning as well as you can for a room, you can still run into issues with online orders.
Before I get into the rug, I do love the other items. The curtains are my fave and the way they widened and lifted my room is just magical. I’m still missing a pillow cover that’s on backorder, but everything else gets a HUGE thumbs up.
Because I know how to take photos of products, color correct them and set them up for the web, it’s frustrating at times to see a product online that you fall in love with, buy, and when it arrives and it’s not the first love experience you had when it was on your computer screen. Total bummer.
So how do you avoid this? Call the stores and request samples. If they don’t have samples on hand you can ask who to reach out to, to get a better idea of the colors and textures. It’s also important to read the reviews. Don’t overlook that part. They are a great tool and can save you some serious hassle! Learn from the experience of previous consumers.
If this does happen to you, you can also look up the store’s contact info and email them proof of how the product doesn’t match what was shown online. In most cases, you will get a full refund including the shipping costs.
The rug I ordered was from Pottery Barn. I didn’t play with the color of the rug when I assembled the digital render of my plan for my music room. See how it’s got a slate tone to it?

Here’s the image from the website…

Here’s how it looks in person…

Ummmmm, it’s way darker with a lot of PINK & PURPLE!
The photo I took with my phone doesn’t show off the strong purple tone in the rug. Even my boys (including Nate) said, “Is the rug supposed to be purple and pink?”
What a shift from what was online! Don’t get me wrong this rug is cute, but not what I wanted for this space.
Because my house has an open layout the music room rug must flow with the living room rug. See below.

I know. First world problems. No biggie!
My next step is calling up the store and asking for a full refund. Then it’s back to searching for a new rug.
Does this happen to you, too? Tell us how you fixed it. How do you avoid the issues that come with shopping online?
Stay well, everyone!

P.S. Next week I’ll be away helping my family for a few days so there won’t be a post next Friday. I’ll be back with a new post on the 3rd of July.
