While I was in Idaho, I put together a big juicy list for Sam and Nate to get started on for the makeover of Sam’s room while I was gone. Boy, did they do an awesome job on the navy accent wall! Scroll down to see more.
I can’t believe it, but my oldest Sam is starting high school this Fall, and wow has time flown by. He was ready to drop the old map and flag look (even though it was darling) and go for something more contemporary, urban, and clean.
Before I left for my trip, Sam and I put together a look that was exactly what he was hoping for. And let me tell you, Nate and I have been teasing Sam that he should spend a night with Nanna and Poppie so Nate and I can spend a night in his room because his new look definitely has an urban, boutique hotel vibe. We all love it! I especially love how easy it is for him to maintain and keep clean.
Here’s his sweet before bedroom.

I told Sam, “Why don’t you and dad figure out how you want your accent wall to look.” I gave him some ideas and left the rest up to Sam. When I left, he took down his old room, took apart his old bed, and got to work. He ended up figuring out the math, went to Home Depot with dad and they worked all weekend together on it.
These were the process photos Sam texted me while I was in Idaho. I don’t know about you but I think I might have these boys do a few more projects around the house! I thought it was starting to look pretty cool.

While I was in Idaho getting some stuff from my dad’s farm, I stumbled across a very cool antique marble table that was covered with an old saddle and some other old, dusty stuff. I quickly claimed it, because it was obvious that it was long forgotten and I decided to bring it back to life with a good cleaning and a fresh coat of paint.

It was time for this lovely piece to be put to use again. Plus it makes for a great heirloom for Sam’s room.
When I got back, Nate and I ordered the rest of Sam’s decor and finished it up.
Here’s Sam’s new room…

I love how this little table turned out. Thanks, Dad! I wonder if he even realizes that I took it (or even knew it was there!) Ha, ha, ha!! It’s mine now. 😉

Even though this look is more minimalist, note how I use different materials and textures in the space that bring character and coziness.

Sam saw my art in my master bedroom and asked if he could have it in his room instead. I couldn’t refuse, because honestly, it looks even better in his space than in my room. And it just gives me a reason to redo my room! Yay!

Didn’t they do such a beautiful job on that navy accent wall! So good!!!
Originally, we were going to put the bed up against the wall, but after placing the bed in front of his window and fully exposing that rich navy wall, there was no going back. We all loved it and agreed the wall should be open and in full view.
Plus, now that he doesn’t have toys in his room now, he doesn’t need open rug space to play. His bed and desk can be centered in the room now, especially since all teens do is sleep, study (lets hope), and enjoy some screen time.

Isn’t that a fun transition from a kid’s room to a young adult’s room?
If you like the look here’s where you can buy a few of these items.
The stool was from his old room. I scored that a HomeGoods a long time ago. The art I made and was pulled from my master bedroom. The frames were from Ikea. I spray painted them gold. Sam found the large piece of coral on a beach in Key West, FL. (Can you believe they let him travel with that huge rock on the plane?) The black sand in the light bulb vase is from Iceland (I brought back with me from a trip). The lightbulb vase was from World Market. The gold mirror was also from my master bedroom. I picked that up at HomeGoods, too. The rest you’ll find links to below.
One more thing, the mattress that we chose for Sam’s bed was even better than we expected. We ordered an 8-inch memory foam mattress from Amazon that got really good reviews. We were a little worried that it would be too firm, but the memory foam ended up providing just the right amount of cushion. Because we were concerned about the firmness of the mattress (due to some of the reviews) we also ordered him a memory foam mattress topper, but in hindsight, we could have simply ordered him the 10-inch mattress instead and skipped the topper. It would have provided the same effect. HA!
