Well… the basement was supposed to be finished by now, but we have to push the finish date out.
Like any home improvement project, it just takes a little longer than you expect it to and will cost a little more than you expect it to. That’s always to be expected. I’m not surprised at all. However this project began the end of February, and it’s July and I’m starting to get the ants in my pants feeling, if you know what I mean.
I’m ready to reclaim my office, garage and main level. That’s where all of our current basement items are currently being stored. It looks like we just moved into our house with boxes all over the place. My daily work and life routine, no longer exists. I’m all over the place. I’m organized, but I don’t currently have a place to put all of my stuff, so I carry it literally and metaphorically on my shoulders. All I dream about now is having space and a place for everything. That day will come, I just take deep breaths and keep moving.
My husband is doing the same, but even more than me. He’s extra sensitive to clutter. He can’t stand messes, so all this building, noises, etc. is getting to him. He’s managing it well and doesn’t complain, but you can really see it, as he’s not home much.
The boys have been pretty good about the whole thing. They act like it’s a long road trip. Instead of saying, “Are we there yet?” They say, “Is the basement done yet?” It is what it is…
Things are moving in the right direction. Plus, I’m so grateful I have work that gives me the opportunity to pay for this remodeling project. I wouldn’t be able to do this otherwise. So, despite little delays here and there, it’s still very exciting and I choose to be excited rather than being annoyed.
The storage built-ins are almost done. The hand made doors are beautiful. The bathroom is being tiled this week. I switched up the tile design because the tile that came in didn’t have the same coloring that I reviewed in the store, so I returned it and went with a new look. It’s not too far off from the original design but it’s a little bolder. I’m glad the colors didn’t turn out with the original tile because I’m pretty excited about this new direction. The black shower floor is going to be fun.

Here’s the revised design.

Have you had a project go longer than expected? Tell me about it!
I’m taking this Friday off (July 5) so I wish you all a Happy 4th and stay safe!! See you next Tuesday!

July 2, 2019 at 9:28 pmI pulled our picture frames out of the crawlspace in March or April and they are still waiting on my bedroom floor for me to choose their pictures and places in the house. Does that count?
