Designers live in the color wheel. We love it! While monochrome design is already on its way into homes, designers are also using new pairings for a fresh use of color. Queue the analogous color scheme… Do you know what this is? They’re simply made of three (sometimes four) colors that are right next to each other on the color wheel. There are so many different combinations I could come up with, but for my sanity I’m only going to show you a few so you get the point. Let’s dive in!

Composed of one dominant color (usually a primary or secondary color), then a supporting color, and a third color that is either a mix of the two first colors, or an accent color. Red, orange, and red-orange are examples. Think of a beautiful sunset with that natural transition of red, to orange then yellow as another example.

You can have a lot of fun with this color process. They don’t need to be bold hues. They can also be muted, deep or soft. Keep things calm and inviting with neutral tones or create mood and vibrancy with deeper or brighter hues. It’s all up to you and what you love.
I’m actually using an analogous color scheme in my basement to create a relaxing nature like environment you can snuggle and relax in. And it’s working out really well!
If I can just finish sanding all those walls, then get around to painting them I’ll show you… 😉
What color scheme is your favorite?
