I am so excited to share this before-and-after office design with you. See how I transformed an everyday split-level basement room into a chic mid-century home office.
My client works from home and also designs wedding invitations on the side. She loves modern, blues, neutrals, little pops of color and wood tones. When I first set eyes on her office I noticed a lot of under-utilized space that had a lot of potential. Her hubby had already installed shelving that I really liked, but I wanted to take it to another level and make it more of a statement.
BEFORE

We talked about how she loved the idea of more storage, using all the space and making it look more inviting for her clients. Her husband was not excited about the idea of changing any of the existing wood trim. We did however ease his mind by agreeing to painting only a little of it. 😉

To balance out the oak trim, I chose furniture with wood tones that helped support the existing woodwork and I chose paint colors that purposely made it pop and while cooling it down.
That’s me, starting to stage the room.

AFTER

I’m SO happy with this room! I LOVE the mix of patterns, strong whites, layers of different textures and the navy accent bookshelf lifted the ceiling. Painting the bookshelf one solid color made it more grand and helped give the room a focal point. And that light fixture! ADORABLE!!!
We went with a custom navy color to go with the rug, but don’t fret! Sherwin Williams Naval SW 6244 is a fabulous color.

Printers are pretty mandatory when it comes to an office. They can also be a huge eye-sore. I decided to be sneaky and hide it away on top of a navy end table so it’s camouflaged and blends into the back wall.
My client loves a clean desk and a place for her pens. While shopping at Home Goods together, we came across this little guy that made for a functional and playful accent on her desk.

I wanted to add some cute accent chairs that were comfortable for her clients and her girls that love to pay mom a visit as she’s working.

Anyone spy a ‘Sweet Reminder?’ 😉

To soften the computer monitor, I placed two smaller plants in front so the monitor didn’t feel so heavy. Plus, having plants in a room always adds more of a calm feel.

Most (if not all) of the decor on the shelves we found at Home Goods, Target and Hobby Lobby.

The faux plants are from Hobby Lobby, Target and West Elm.
Oh! Do you see another ‘Sweet Reminder?’ I know, I’m such a nerd! I’m just making an extra special note so you can see lots of different ways to use them in your home or office space.

Her sideboard offers her way more storage space that’s tucked away.

WALL COLORS

Now, my client is able to have great work flow, proper storage and balanced lighting. She’s excited to invite clients into her office and most importantly, she enjoys going to work. That’s HUGE!
Now I need to get my own home office in gear! …but I’ll finish my basement first! 😉
What do you guys think about this room? I’d love to hear from you!
XO
