I hope you guys have been able to stay warm this week. It’s been a frigid -30 around my place. My whole week felt off balance as Nate and I worked from home and my kids were home from school. I finished painting my main floor. The first coat I put on (in just my kitchen area) felt too cool. So, I went a touch warmer and darker and painted it all Edgecomb Gray by Benjamin Moore. It’s a really, really warm gray that reads more like a cool tan. It’s a subtle cooler shift from the original warm tan I had up previously, but just enough to brighten my first level even more and I LOVE it!

I’m making my home feel light, bright and fresh. I’m shifting it to feel more classic, minimalistic, with accents of art and vintage finds. I want it to feel more tranquil and relaxing, no matter what the temperature is outside. Nate has even commented on how soft and tranquil it feels.
I love the Georgian style. I always have. I’m kinda an old soul that way. Below are two examples of the Traditional Georgian style.

As design has evolved I can’t get enough of how the Georgian style has evolved along with it. Thick classic molding and built-ins mixed with an urban transitional design twist really work well together. I’m very eclectic so for me I need to mix it up a little, so my look falls into the transitional realm, which means traditional, modern and contemporary all mixed together. These are room examples that I just drool over and I’m so inspired by.

They all happen to be from European cities, too. I’ve definitely been inspired by my travels. I always say to Nate, “I don’t just want to visit these places. I want to bring part of it back with me.” So, I’m doing just that. The only BIG difference is, my budget is way smaller then the rooms featured above. 😉
Here’s the updated look.

As far as my kitchen, it’s almost done. I’ve gone through thousands and thousands of pendant lights. That’s not an exaggeration BTW! I finally settled on some. However, I won’t get them until mid March because they are on backorder, so the kitchen isn’t complete until the lights are in. Yes, it’s a pain, but what are you going to do, right? Home remodeling and backorders are all a part of the process and it takes time. Plus, I’m really doing a lot myself. I don’t have a team remodeling with me, so it takes even longer.
I want to repaint the small painting in my kitchen. I’m really inspired with Henri Matisse’s flowers in vase paintings. So I’m thinking that’s the direction I’ll be going. Hopefully, that will only take a half day or so. I had some products that were supposed to be delivered this week for my kitchen, but due to the weather, no dice. I’m thinking they’re frozen to a truck in a crate somewhere… Everything else is done, so hopefully, I’ll be able to do the reveal very soon!

My basement is going to be framed soon. Framing was supposed to happen this week, but due to the cold, cold weather, it needed to be rescheduled. I have all the wood down there and ready to go. I’m working on design plans for the space. Here’s what I have so far. I’m looking at adding in a 5th bedroom and a 4th bathroom for this level.

XOXO

February 4, 2019 at 10:45 pmWe are gearing up to do our basement, too! Putting in a bedroom, freshening up the world’s ugliest bathroom, and adding some egress windows?
