If you’re wondering where to buy some of the items from last Friday’s Modern Office post, or learn how to build that string accent wall, no worries. Keep reading to shop and build the look below.
Building the string accent wall is not hard, but it does take time and patience. It’s a fabulous way to give a large open wall color, texture and dimension with very little cost.
String Wall Installation DIY:

You will need:
1) Hammer, ruler, pencil and scissor
2) Brad nails (1.5″ to 2″ long depending on your surface)
3) String (this can be tatting string, embroidery floss or yarn). The the office I used embroidery floss.
4) Super Glue
Before you pound in nails, make sure your wall is clean. Be sure to have a good plan on how you want the pattern to look. For the office design each nail was measured exactly 1″ apart for an even clean look.
Make sure your nail is sticking at least .25″ out away from the wall. Once all the nails are in place apply super glue to the nail and wall to secure the nail in place. Let glue dry for at least 4-5 hours before stringing.

Once the glue is dry take your string and tie a knot around your first nail and being to evenly wrap your string from one nail to another until you’re ready for your next color layer. You only have to loop the string around the nail head once and pull so the string is straight. It doesn’t have to be super tight (light a guitar string) but it does to be straight (so not loose). You get to decide how many colors and how thick you want the strings to be. Make sure each color is spread out and balanced with your design. Once you are done with that color tie it off on the end of a nail and cut.
When all the colors are on the nails, add another small dot of glue to the nail head and where the string in wrapped so seal the string in place so it doesn’t come unraveled.
