As you know, decorating is a lot harder nowadays. Lots of items are out of stock. Others have long shipping delays and cancellations. The projects around my house are moving even slower due to these issues. The good news is I finally have a few projects to show you. They aren’t totally finished, but they are in the works and looking good so far. Keep scrolling to see what I’ve been up to.
Music Room
Remember that rug I ordered for my music room that I did a rendering of and then it didn’t work out because the image online was more blue and green, then it arrived pink and purple…? Gratefully it had free shipping so returning it wasn’t an issue. Well… I found another rug! I thought it looked pretty promising in the rendering (see below), so I ordered it. It’s from Pottery Barn, Garnet Printed Handwoven Rug – Olive.

When it arrived, again, it had no olive tones in it, as it appeared on the website (which was annoying) but I didn’t hate it. So, I sat with it sort of rolled out in the living room. After days with it Nate and I both agreed it worked and we pulled the trigger on having the rug custom cut. There’s no going back now after it’s been cut.
I had Bob’s Binding trim my rug. They also do custom-designed rugs for your home …or your boat! How cool is that?!? They’ll cut an existing or custom rug to whatever size you desire. I dropped it off and it only took a week. Not bad at all. I had a 13″ x 8′ piece removed and it cost $98.00 which I felt was very reasonable.
I just picked it up today and now Nate and I have the pleasure of getting it under the baby grand piano. Nate is not looking forward to this. In the past, we hired some movers from Schmitt Music to come out and lift the piano for us so we could switch out rugs. That’s around $100. This time we are going to use a car jack to lift each end of the piano to remove the rug. I’ll let you know how that goes…;).
The old rug that’s currently under my piano will have a new home in my office upstairs.
Basement
All my pillows have been ordered for the basement. Some were on backorder so it’s been taking a long time. I even had to be pushy with some of my custom orders from Etsy, making sure my samples weren’t delayed any longer than absolutely necessary. They are all supposed to arrive this weekend. Yay! Now let’s hope after months it all works out. Because it’s been SO long. I sometimes can’t even remember what the arrangement looked like. I’d have to refresh my memory with a review of my plans.

My North Shore painting has a lot of color options to pull from for pillows. It was tempting to play with those bold red, burgundy, and cranberry hues. Instead, because my floor is a warm wood tone and I have wood furniture down there, I wanted to pull out those gray, green, blue, and violet tones so the pillows acted more like rocks coming out from the painting.
I also need to finish up this painting too! There’s some areas I want to tone down and other areas I want to wash out. It’s not intended to feel so bold when it’s finished.
Hallway Lighting
As you may know, my house has an open floor plan. As much as I love the flow of my home, decorating is another story. It’s easy to use different lighting in different rooms when there are walls between them so you can’t really see the differences in light fixtures. But when it’s all open, the eye sees it all at once, so things need to work together. I finally got rid of the boob lights on the main level! Yay!
Originally, I wanted a cleaner modern flush mount to coordinate with my kitchen island pattern. I ordered some lights, but after they were installed I just hated them in this space. The flush mount was just too big and white. So, Nate being the good man that he is, removed them for me and we returned them.
They are great lights, but they didn’t match with what I have going on.
I just ordered these new flush mounts from Pottery Barn. I like the mercury glass which I’m hoping coordinates well with my two large shell pendants in person. So we’ll see what they really look like. Crossing fingers. See what you think in the rendering below.
Next up… I’m also thinking about my Fall porch. My poor yard. The landscaping needs a haircut SO bad. Bushes need to be trimmed and cut back. Just ask my neighbors; they’ll tell ya.
Sam mentioned to me the other day, “Our house is starting to look like the Addams Family property.”
“Perfect,” I said, “Just in time for Halloween!”
