I had a lot of fun designing my porch this year! Creating it really made me feel like a kid again.
You can also check out my post on Domino!!!
For this year’s theme, I just wanted to be wild and free and use what I could find around me, then incorporate it in a whimsical way. I pulled traditional and trend fall tones together to create a playful, energetic vibe. I wanted to keep the budget low ($65). I didn’t want to buy anything with the exception of fall flowers. In past fall porch designs (you can see here and here), I painted a lot of thin branches and clustered them together. This year I went big and bold and painted it all! Originally, I wanted to use yarn instead of paint and wrap it around the branches. I already had a ton of paint, though, so I used what I had instead. Yarn would be cute too if you’re not the painting type.

The design is mixed up enough that this year’s look still feels new from past years even though there are some items I have used before. For my wreath DIY, click here. For the logs and sticks, I went to my favorite place on earth… my local compost pile. My mind goes crazy when I’m there! Plus, it’s free. When I’m done with the logs I’ll just use them as firewood or maybe I’ll re-paint them for another season… who knows? I’m never disappointed when I rummage through the compost pile. You’d laugh or probably think I’m some crazy lady with my cranberry Nissan Cube, climbing and sorting through random, wet, old branches. 99.9 percent of people that I run across when I’m there, just look and stare at me as they come by with their van or truck full of cut branches. Nobody ever asks, they just stare at me. Next time I’ll have to have business cards in my pocket and just hand them out. 😉
It’s great to mix and match things up in a way that you can’t tell what is real and what is fake. So, I had some faux foliage that I mixed in with my real foliage. You can find some of my faux foliage at Hobby Lobby.

For those of you that have been with the blog from the beginning, I did a DIY leaf project (click here) way back when and used them around the top of my door. I also mixed it with leaves that I picked up from the Dollar Store.

I thought my boys would be interested in helping me paint some of the stumps. My oldest, Sam, was interested for about 10 minutes, then bailed.

Here’s the very best part! When I finished, I asked my boys what they thought, their responses and faces were expressionless, “It’s okay, I mean… it’s kinda cool I guess.”
LOL! Gosh I love my family SO MUCH!
What do kids know anyway, right? 😉
Have a great Fall weekend everyone!!!
XOXO
