Well, I finally purchased and installed a new chandelier for my dining room…
There are a ton of options out there for lighting. However, most of the styles I liked only had one bulb. Quite frankly, that’s just not going to cut it! Another issue I ran into was that I’d find a style I really liked, but the size would be too small (clocking in at a diameter of 18 inches or less). It was as if these sites were just teasing me! I’d see this amazing chandelier and be willing to spend an additional $50 to $75 for the look, but then I’d read the dimensions and it was just tiny! ARRGGHH!
Here are some things to consider when looking for new a chandelier:
- What diameter is going to work?
If you have a table that is 36″ wide or wider, I recommend looking for a chandelier with a diameter of 24″ or wider.
- How much light is needed in the space?
How bright is your space? Above a table I recommend 4-5 or more lights. If you have a dimmer on your outlet, you can go much brighter and control the lighting.
- What are the other features in the room?
Look at what’s on your walls. Are they full or empty? Think of a chandelier as jewelry for the room. If your walls aren’t full consider making your lighting more of a statement piece. If you have more of a gallery wall in the background, consider something cleaner and less distracting.
- What is the appropriate height to hang?
If your room had 8ft ceilings, the sweet spot is 33″-34″ from the table top to the bottom of the chandelier. If your ceiling are 9ft tall you can go between 35″-36″ from the table top to the bottom of the chandelier.

I couldn’t even tell you how many chandeliers I looked at. It was ridiculous! In the end, I photo-shopped 50 to 60 different chandeliers onto a picture of my dining room to try to get the best fit. It really came down to simplifying the look. I’m a sucker for layers but given the location of the chandelier and how close it is to the gallery wall of my kids’ art, the lighting needed to be more functional and effective at illuminating the area in the evening. It also needed to be cleaner and not act as a distraction to the art behind it on the wall.
So, long story short here is my new chandelier! TA-DAH! 🙂

What do you think?
You can buy it here!
I know, you’re probably thinking, “This wasn’t even an option from the list of ideas that were posted earlier…” If the diameter was big enough I would have gone with the gold drum chandelier, but it was too small for the space. And that’s okay because I’m really happy with the one I have.
Nate and I are very pleased with how it turned out. It produces the right amount of light, the price was perfect, it was easy to install, and we love how clean it looks without stealing the show from the gallery wall.
If you’re shopping around for a new chandelier and you’re not sure if it’s going to work well in your space, I can help! Just shoot me an email at mydailyshe@gmail.com and we’ll get started on your project.
