My kitchen is about to be remodeled and it’s time to pick out pendant lighting.
Lighting can really make a statement in your room. Think of pendant lighting like a good pair of statement earrings. There are pros and cons with pendant lighting. Most of the time pendant lighting is small and often has only one or two lights. If they are used correctly they can create something really beautiful in your space and give off the appropriate amount of light. These types of lights should not be mistaken for chandeliers. Yes they are very similar, but chandeliers give off more light and hang from an armed system. Honestly, there are no decor rules saying you can’t use a larger pendant light over your dining room table. It has a lot to do with the aesthetic you’re after… how you want it to look plus the light you need or want to fill around you. So, keep in mind, how much light do you want to shine above you? If your room is already pretty dark, then you might want to go for a chandelier, or multiple pendants if you so choose.
The pendants I’m playing with are going over my kitchen island, so I have a lot of options to play with. Because I have additional recessed lighting in the room, these pendants can have metal shades for more direct lighting, exposed bulb (these are best if you have them hooked up to a dimmer), glass shades, or other organic shades.
My house is an open floor plan so it has to coordinate with this chandelier.

Here are the pendants I’m thinking about for my remodeled kitchen.
Design A
This is an exact match to my chandelier. It’s the safest option, but I’m not sure I want both lights to be so matchy-matchy. It’s not bad though.
FYI- Only my island will be black, the rest of the kitchen will be white.

Design B
I really like the classic beehive shape, but it might be too much black for the top.

Design C
I think these are so chic and contemporary. The black isn’t as heavy as the beehive shape above.

Design D
I love the unique silhouette of these pendants. They remind me of spindle legs. So beautiful! I’m wondering if having three of them feels like too much…

November 9, 2018 at 8:23 amI like A or C, I like the black cords on the beehive shape and the fact that the metal is more brass than gold, but the lower profile of A is lovely too.
