There’s so much more out there than rocking chairs and petunias. Don’t misunderstand, I love petunias! But let’s mix it up and think bigger this Spring. Get inspired with ideas I found as I’m getting ready to design my front porch.
First, I have a confession… I still have my winter decor up on my porch. It’s true! I’ve been so busy with my basement plans, work, etc., I’ve neglected my front porch.
I’ve also been a little hesitant, due to our moody MN weather. It still gets chilly at night, so I’m hoping it will be safe in a couple more weeks to start planting.
The front doors and porches are the first impressions of your home, so give these areas special attention. Create a comfortable invitation that makes people welcome even before they step inside.
Tip 1) Think flowers. In my opinion, you can never have enough flowers. Homes that are covered with vines or have big floral pot arrangements are show stoppers.
Tip 2) Mix up your flowers. When you are potting, add a variety of greens and flowers to give your arrangement movement and depth.
Tip 3) Door color. Painting a front door is one of the easiest and most affordable ways to give your home a bit more personality. Take your time picking the right shade that livens and compliments your home.
Tip 4) If you have a porch, make it really cozy. Think of your porch just like your living room. Layer your outdoor furniture with pillows, throws, stools, lanterns, rugs, and plants. Make it so comfortable, you’ll want to be out there all summer long.
Tip 5) Give your exterior some personality! Have fun and be creative!
Did you see something that inspired you? I know I did!
