For those of you that LOVE color, this post is for you. This client is into bold contemporary patterns, textures and colors, so we went for an affordable design that instantly brings a smile to any face.
My client wasn’t interested in going too crazy with painting the trim, changing flooring, hardware or lighting. She just wanted a fun updated look without too much expense or hassle.
She really wanted to try wallpaper, but didn’t want to commit to a more permanent look, so I showed her a handful of removable wallpaper patterns that I knew she’d love.
Now! Please note: It’s way easier to apply wallpaper when the sink and toilet are not installed, but this wasn’t that kind of demo so we had to be clever to work around those items.

I’ll be honest and say wallpapering isn’t my favorite craft, but I will say it’s completely worth it, because the transformation is fabulous!

Here’s the BEFORE

Here’s the AFTER

Whewww! Wallpaper successfully applied! Doesn’t it look so cute?!
Navy is a great color to use against natural wood finishes. It cools the wood down making it feel less orange and dated. It gives it a more balanced look. The new wood and weave accents also contribute by bringing the warm tones up to eye level acting almost like gold finishes.

Plants are always essential in rooms. It brings freshness and relaxation into the space. I went for a bolder green pop so there wasn’t any distraction from the wallpaper.
I told my client to spray the frame of her existing mirror white.

Baskets are another must in rooms. They bring a cozy, warm texture that calms the room. It’s an attractive way of storing and organizing items without making it look cluttered or busy.

This rug is dark for a few reasons. 1) My client has kids and this bathroom is right next to the mudroom, it’s going to get dirty. Stains will not stand out on this rug. 2) The navy rug again cools down and neutralizes the floor. 3) Rugs bring softness and warmth that a tiled floor can’t give you, making it more inviting.

Art should never be an afterthought. Be deliberate with what you hang on your walls. Art creates a finishing element and color palette that brings everything in the room (furniture, decor, lighting, etc.) harmoniously together. The right wall art in your room will instantly elevate your look to a higher, fabulous level.

Look for different types of art, too. It’s more stimulating and interesting when you mix paintings, paper art (like my Sweet Reminders 😉 😉 ;)), pottery and other media in the same space.

Most importantly, your room needs to reflect your style. I know you hear me say this over and over, but I can’t say it enough. When a room looks like the “before image” there is no invitation, no character, no personality… You don’t need to upgrade everything, this room is proof of that. You just need to add character; your character.

FYI- The leaf MN is new. I’ll be putting that one up in the shop very soon.

How do you guys feel about this bathroom transformation?
