After lots and lots of research for budget-friendly tiles, plus many concepts I pulled together, I finally settled on a design for my basement guest bathroom. Image above via www.hgtv.com.
Oh tile, I LOVE you so. There are endless possibilities for designing with tile. Trust me my head was spinning. I had to really train myself to only look at tile that I could afford. That was so hard! I ended up making a lot of compromises, but in the end, I’m quite satisfied with my plans.
Since this bathroom is located in the basement, (and entirely below ground with no natural light) I want it to feel relaxing and fresh. Here are some images that began to inspire me.

I, of course, love pops of black. It’s dramatic but in a good way. Too much can feel heavy, but the right amount can look so chic. I’m a sucker for this look below. The black french doors against that marble just take my breath away. It pulls me in.

Moroccan tile is everywhere now and it should be. It’s beautiful! Its ornate patterns add depth and character to just about any bathroom, laundry room or kitchen. I couldn’t resist so tried it in a few of my concepts below. So, here are the ideas that I’ve been playing with over the last couple of weeks.

I will say Design 2 and Design 3 were my very fave last week. I really obsessed over Design 3 the most. BUT, after a while, the pattern started to look like daisies. Did I really want to commit to daisies? In Design 2, that blue was so awesome and bold, so my early instincts said, “DO IT!!!” However, if I did go with blue, as lovely as it is, I would feel restricted to that color pallet. So, knowing myself as well as I do (I love to change things up a lot) I know that I don’t want to be bound by colors that are permanently in the room. I want to add in whatever color combos I’m in the mood for. So, I went for a more neutral but timeless design that allows me to switch out any rug, art, or color combo that I want. Plus, this look is a better fit for the character of the house.

I love the eclectic mix of tile, the pops of black, a touch of geometric that’s more transitional and the cool fresh feeling it gives. Most importantly it feels clean. Plus, I really want those black french shower doors, so I designed around that look too. 😉
