Houseplants always look beautiful in any room of your home. But they do much more than that. They are fabulous for your health. I’ve created a list of a few of my favorite houseplants that get the job done when it comes to cleaning your indoor air.
Plant are the perfect natural filter. They release oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide. That not only freshens up the air, but also eliminates harmful toxins that can float around indoors.
They increase humidity which is very helpful during those very dry cold months.
It’s not a bad idea to have a plant stored in your bathroom. Did you know they can filter tiny fecal matter particles out of the air? They are very good at reducing levels of pollutants in the air, such as benzene and nitrogen dioxide.
One of my favorite perks is they also reduce airborne dust levels. I don’t know anyone that enjoys dusting.
With that said, here are a few plants that work the hardest at freshening up your air all year long.
English Ivy
Ivy is timeless. You can place it shade or full sun. It works really hard at filtering your air and is very easy to care for.

Sansevieria Trifasciata
Also called snake plant, these plants are really hard to kill and love low light. They are the best for filtering out formaldehyde-common in cleaning products, toilet paper, tissues and personal care products. I’ve had mine for six years and it’s still growing strong.

Peace Lilies
This one works hard at filtering ammonia, benzene and formaldehyde. Plus, they make a beautiful, serene decoration for your living room. I’ve got mine located in a shady spot right behind my couch in my living room.

Aloe vera
I adore this sun-loving succulent. They are perfect for your sunny kitchen. It helps clear formaldehyde and benzene from the air. Beyond its air-clearing abilities, the gel inside an aloe plant can heal cuts and burns.

Spider Plant
Another easy to care for houseplant that also works hard at filtering harmful pollutants like formaldehyde and benzene. It’s low maintenance and likes bright, indirect light.

Epipremnum Aureum
This houseplant is as easy as it gets and requires no special conditions. It effectively purifies the air of benzene. The bigger leaves help to absorb a large number of pollutants.

Dragon Tree
I love the color ranges (green to purple) on this plant. It’s a another hard working plant that doesn’t require much work and likes low light.

What I love most about these plants is that they aren’t hard to find and very affordable. I see them in most grocery stores located in the floral department or at The Home Depot.
For those of you who are afraid of having real plants in your home, these are the perfect ones to start training your green thumbs with. Start freshening up your air!
Which plants would you like to bring into your home?
